I don’t have anything new to share so I thought I would add an older project.
Empty cutlery boxes often appear on auction sites some of the larger ones can be quite expensive. A friend was looking for a large box and when I saw this I thought it would be ideal.

Although the insides were in reasonable condition they were not ideal for storing pens after a few days of work I had reached this point.

Even the inside of the lid had to be stripped

The inside of the lid was to have this monogram embossed into the inside of the lid

This was the most complex monogram I have ever tried to emboss

It took some time but I got there in the end.
The next stage was to line the drawer and upper compartment in turquoise suede.

I made wooden trays to fit inside and then made inserts for each tray using a piece of card and dowels cut to size.

After covering the dowels in suede I fitted the inserts into the trays

Lower trays added

Upper trays for larger pens

The top of this box was quite badly scratched and also had a few dings which I tried to repair without success, So eventually I decided to replace the veneer.

Veneer removed

Replacement edging was applied around the outer edges

Replacement flame mahogany veneer applied I decided to have a go at French polishing for the top.

Finished

Thanks for looking
Michael
