Twin cigar style pen case

This is my most complicated case that I currently make it has lots of steps and takes many hours to get it right.

Starting as all of my protective cases do with flat sheet Kydex which I formed around a wooden dowel. The seams are welded and smoothed the closed end is rounded over.

When the Kydex had cooled I started wrapping them in suede.

After both tubes were wrapped I took two pieces of 0.5mm leather and stitched up the centre. This piece fixes the two tubes together and allows the lid to be a friction fit without damaging the suede linings.

I dyed the inner cover and outer covers at the same time in an attempt to get similar colours on the finished items. This does not always work as different leathers take dye in different ways but I do try.

Before the dye was fully dry I started to form the inner cover and placed the outer covers in a zip lock bag to slow the drying process.

After allowing it to dry I glued and stitched it together.

It was time to remove the outer covers from the bag and form them around the inner section. I did wrap the inner section before forming the outer covers.

Forming the outer covers is not as simple as it sounds as both sides need to be parallel and corners need to be square.

I put these clamps on four or five times before I was happy with it time to let it dry for a few hours before checking I was happy with the shape. Before removing the clamps I tack stitched the two pieces together which will help with alignment in later stages.
