A couple of years ago I was asked to make a pocket pen case to protect a pen carried in a front trouser pocket.

It is always nice to get feedback on my work the best feedback in my opinion is a return customer. There are a couple of changes to his design which you will see as we progress.

Starting as always with a sheet of flat Kydex I cut a piece to the size required and applied some heat.

Once the kydex has cooled it will keep the shape of the mould.

After trimming I selected the same suede as the original and wrapped both the inside and outside of the Kydex in suede.

I allowed the glue on the suede to dry for an hour or so before sealing it in black saran film to keep it dry.

A wet piece of veg tanned leather was moulded over the form and the suede wrapped Kydex. this is time for short finger nails and bone folders to persuade the leather to take the shape.

The back panel is just a strip of leather with a piece of Kydex hidden under the suede. lining everything up is a little tricky but I got there in the end.

Finishing touches to follow.

I used my new Wind fire designs circle tool to make a template to get a radius at the top of the back panel.

After leaving the case to dry overnight I applied some wax polish and stitched the case together.
