I have been asked to make a pair of cases for the A.S.C. Three Kings set of pens. One single and one for all three.
Burgundy leather with dark purple suede.
Starting with a flat sheet of Kydex I heated it and formed it over a wooden mould to give me the individual pen slots for each pen.
All I needed now was three more 🙂 Once the Kydex had cooled retaining the new shape I wrapped them in suede.
First the single and then the thrapple.
Having glued the suede in place I left it to dry and started to look at the outer covers veg tanned leather was cut to the required size and soaked in cold water. It was then formed over the same mould before getting six coats of burgundy dye.
After the dye had almost dried I glued the components together.
The customer asked for the letters A.S.C. to be stamped into the strap that holds the flap in place of the small case.
And A.S.C. Three Kings on to the strap of the three pen case.
I made three versions of the long text but eventually fitted the first one I made.
Once I had started stitching I realised that the text on the strap was not quite straight so I removed it and changed it for the first one I had made.
When marking the flap I first made a template from board to help with the shape. This template is for the stitching line rather than the actual flap.
Here are the two matching cases side by side fully hand stitched waiting for trimming.
After trimming all that is left to do is some sanding and edge finishing. And a final polish.
Finished and ready to ship.
